A new Medial Locums framework is due to be launched in February. Following extensive stakeholder engagement it will expand on the services available under the current framework and provide flexibility at a local level regarding service delivery models and pricing. Benefits of the new framework will include:

• A choice of service delivery models: neutral vendor, master vendor and fixed term direct employment to cover known long term absence.
• Best pricing: the framework provides capped rates but by leveraging volume through local competition best market pricing will be achieved and savings maximised.
• An expanded range of locums including GPs to cover all NHS needs.
• Sub-contracting: principle contractors will be able to sub-contract to any provider on the basis that they will be responsible for maintenance of all contractual standards. This will mean customer requirements can be met and supplied to the framework standard, avoiding the potential clinical risk of ‘off framework’ supply.
