Boroughs awarded £2.1m to boost cycling

Transport for London (TfL) has awarded London boroughs £2.1 million to spend this year on cycling measures as part of the Mayor's Vision for Cycling.

This Borough Cycling Programme funding will help to deliver a range of measures across the Capital, helping to make cycling easier, safer and more accessible for all.

More than £1 million will be spent on installing residential, on-street and station cycle parking, helping to tackle one of the main barriers to increasing levels of cycling. Money will also be provided for cycle training (for children and adults) and Safer Urban Driving courses for freight operators to reduce lorry, van and coach conflict with cyclists.

Ben Plowden TfL's Director of Planning, Surface Transport said: 'This funding is a great opportunity for London boroughs to get local residents cycling. The boroughs play an important role in helping us deliver the Mayor's Vision for Cycling and, with their help, we hope to increase the amount of people who regularly take to two wheels across London.'
