Broadcaster and bank advisor reappointed to Countryside Council for Wales

Former farming bank advisor and broadcaster Rod Williams has been re-appointed as a member of the Countryside Council for Wales, Environment, Sustainability and Housing Minister Jane Davidson announced yesterday (Monday 5 January 2009).

Mr Williams was first appointed as a Council Member in January 2003 and will now work for a further three years with CCW.

After graduating from Bangor and Reading Universities, Mr Williams career included working as the North and Mid Wales Regional Agricultural Manager for HSBC. He was employed by HSBC and Midland Bank for more than 30 years and was also the bank’s agricultural policy advisor. Before joining the bank he was District Agricultural Advisor with rural consultancy ADAS in South West Carmarthen.

He is a well known broadcaster on Agri-Business issues on S4C and BBC Radio Cymru farming programmes. For a short while he presented the Saturday morning programme Byd Amaeth. He is a Governor of Llysfasi College as well as being a member of the Heather and Hillforts project group for the Clwydian Hills. Over recent years he has been Treasurer of Ty Croeso, a home for the Parents of Children being treated at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan. He is a member at Capel Y Dyffryn, Llandyrnog and lives in a smallholding on the edge of the Clwydian Hills.

In confirming the re-appointment Ms Davidson said:

Mr Williams has made a strong commitment and contribution to the work of Countryside Council for Wales since his first appointment over six years ago. I am confident that he has the necessary skills and abilities to continue to help the Council meet the many challenges that it faces in the years ahead.

Mr Williams’ appointment is for three years from January 1, 2009 to December 31 2011.
