Public Sector Employment, Q4 2013
In Q4 2013
-
total UK public sector employment decreased by 159,000 to 5.507 million - the fall almost entirely explained by the reclassification from the public sector to the private sector of Royal Mail plc.
-
employment in UK local government, at 2.389 million, is 25,000 lower than at Q3 2013.

employment in UK central government, at 2.834 million, is 17,000 higher than at Q3 2013.

employment in UK public corporations, at 284,000, is 151,000 lower than at Q3 2013.
-
private sector employment increased by 264,000, to 24.684 million - boosted by the transfer into the private sector of Royal Mail plc.
-
total UK public sector employment is 203,000 lower than at Q4 2012.

total UK private sector employment is 662,000 higher than at Q4 2012.
