Thinking Primary

Gathering evidence to support the independent review of the primary curriculum

Reviewing the primary curriculum

The Secretary of State has asked Sir Jim Rose to lead an independent review of the primary curriculum. The review will advise ministers on how the primary curriculum needs to change in order to:

  • ease the transition from early years into primary schools
  • sharpen the focus on mathematics and English
  • give teachers more flexibility to design and deliver a localised curriculum

Throughout this review, Sir Jim is being closely supported by QCA's Curriculum Division, headed by Mick Waters, to gather the evidence for the review and manage the associated consultations.

QCA is currently running a series of online forums and surveys to help collect this evidence. Please take part and join in the discussions. This is your chance to be part of the review and help shape the new primary curriculum.

Interim report

Sir Jim Rose's interim report, published on 8 December 2008, can be downloaded from the online publications section of the Teachernet website (see related links).

Comments on the interim report can be submitted through the Review website.
