Welsh businesses encouraged to explore overseas markets

The drive to encourage more Welsh SMEs to trade internationally steps up a pace this week with a series of events highlighting business opportunities in overseas markets held to mark Export Week May 13-17.

The events in Wales - organised by the Welsh Government working alongside UKT&I - will focus on the key growth markets of China, Turkey, Qatar, Latin America and India.

First Minister Carwyn Jones is encouraging companies to sign up for the seminars and make the most of these opportunities to grow their businesses by exploring new markets overseas.

He said,

“Trading internationally can provide a real boost for businesses by providing access to new customers and new markets, which is of particular importance given the current challenging trading conditions.

“Increasing exports is also vital for the growth of the Welsh economy, helping to spread prosperity and create jobs.

“I would urge businesses that are considering trading internationally to take advantage of these seminars. They are designed to help businesses explore the very real opportunities that are out there and to find out how the Welsh Government’s trade and investment programme is delivering a range of support packages.”

Speakers at the seminars and workshops include representatives from UKTI, China British Business Council, UK Export Finance and the Welsh Government.

There will be experts on hand to advise on key growth markets; Welsh  companies already successfully exporting will discuss their experiences while officials will highlight how the Welsh Government can assist companies develop their international trade.
