International Credit Union Day 2013
Mark Neale, Chief Executive of FSCS, said: “As part of International Credit Union Day we would like to wish all the UK credit unions and their members well today, and remind people that FSCS protects credit union deposit holders up to £85,000 in just the same way as it does UK banks and building societies.
Recently FSCS has been working with major credit unions and trade bodies, to support them to do more to increase awareness about FSCS protection and we thank them for these efforts.
As the credit union movement grows in the public consciousness it is vital that consumers are assured the savings they have with an authorised credit union are protected in the same way as any bank or building society account.”
FSCS protects deposits for credit union members in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
There are over 500 credit unions, which serve millions of customers and hold hundreds of millions in savings and deposits.
