Latest Research Highlights Citizen Demand for Emergency Services to Further Embrace Digital

In April 2017, the newly appointed Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick declared her commitment to the digital transformation of the Met when she stated “We have to modernise. There are such opportunities for people to interact with police through the digital sphere that we have not achieved yet”.

This reinforces the ONE MET Digital Policing Strategy 2017-2020 commitment and the need to keep pace both with technology and London’s multi-cultural, digitally-empowered population, expected to exceed nine million by 2020. This latest research paper demonstrates that citizens are keen to realise the potential benefits that digitally-engaged emergency services could bring.

Indeed, both as a community and as a nation we have truly felt the immediacy of digital information during, and in the hours following, both the appalling terror attack in Westminster on March 22, 2017, and the attack in Manchester on May 22 2017. As the shocking events unfolded, photo and video content from witnesses flooded social platforms, while emergency services used those same channels and a dedicated website to gather evidence and release official updates.
