Set up in 2003 by Dr Clare Carden, Carden Consulting gives practical, impartial advice on how to reduce energy consumption and cost to a wide range of non-domestic organisations from golf clubs to charity-run care homes, and from offices to engineering workshops, whether to meet mandatory ESOS requirements, or simply because a client wants to reduce the energy costs and/or CO2 emissions.
Clare Carden seeks to understand her clients’ needs and, following analysis of current energy consumption, identifies a range of cost-effective solutions which may, or may not, include renewable energy options.
Carden Consulting also delivers certificated Energy Awareness Training, which supports all organisations keen to improve their environmental credentials, and especially those with ISO50001 and ISO14001, who need to demonstrate their staff have appropriate environmental and energy awareness. Clare can also assist in various ways to guide organisations in other aspects of their ISO certifications.
Some of Clare’s clients have engaged her services to draw up tender briefs for installers of renewable energy installations and to guide them in the selection process. Others have sought her input to assess why their renewable installations are not delivering the benefits claimed in quotation documents. Read more about us

ESOS ComplianceCarden Consulting
- ESOS – the Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme – is mandatory for large businesses and third sector organisations with over 250 employees and/or a turnover of more than 50 million Euros and/or a balance sheet of over 43 million Euros.
Carden Consulting’s energy audits give independent advice, unclouded by affiliations or agreements with any product of service provider.
- Many people think energy efficiency stops at switching off lights and fitting double glazing. Clare Carden’s certificated interactive energy awareness training sessions show there is more to it than meets the eye.
- ISO50001 is a management system to improve energy efficiency and, depending on its scope within an organisation and the boundary defined for ISO50001, it can be a route to ESOS compliance.
- At a time when renewable energy is being widely promoted, Carden Consulting provides independent advice on the most appropriate renewable technologies for you, including estimated income from the Feed-in Tariff and the Renewable Heat Incentive. In some cases, however, after weighing up the pros and cons, Clare advises against installing renewable electricity or heat. When estimating the cost benefits she takes into account costs that are not always plain to see in installers’ quotes, such as the tax payable on Feed-in Tariff and Renewable Heat Incentive income and the cost of maintenance.
