About Us
Europe Economics was founded in 1998 by Dermot Glynn, Chairman, whose previous experience includes being the Managing Director of NERA, the Chief Economist of KPMG, the Economic Director of the CBI, and a member of the Department of Applied Economics at Cambridge University. We operate from our office in Chancery Lane in central London.
We are an independent limited company, whose shares are owned mainly by staff.
Our Services
European Economic Research Limited, trading as Europe Economics, is a consultancy specialising in economic regulation, competition policy, and the application of economics to public and business policy issues.
We provide
- High quality economic analysis
- Addressing real issues
- With relevant conclusions.
We employ 25 permanent staff, and have contractual relationships with others who provide specialist input when the need arises. All our staff are very well qualified, and deliver precise and authoritative studies consistently focused on clients' requirements.
Our Clients
Our clients include government departments, regulators, the European Commission and the European Parliament, companies both large and small, industry and professional representative bodies, law firms, public affairs advisors and charitable bodies.
Practice Areas
At Europe Economics we believe that economic analysis can be applied productively to a wide range of business and public policy challenges. Our practice is therefore organised around a number of broad themes with general relevance.
The cost of capital will vary from one sector to another for good reasons, but the principles to be applied in calculating the appropriate level are of general application. Competition legislation affects all sectors of the economy, and we can address issues of market definition and the analysis of market structure in a wide variety of circumstances. Incentive-based regulation is well developed and we advise regulators and regulated companies in many sectors in both the United Kingdom and other countries.

Sectors
Based on our general application of economic principles to a wide variety of situations, Europe Economics has built up detailed understanding of many different economic sectors. These include major manufacturing sectors such as pharmaceuticals, defence and tobacco, the principal utilities and a variety of service sector activities including healthcare, financial services, gambling and groceries.
Details of our main sectoral work are provided here but we are always interested in extending our application of economics to other areas of work.

Skills
The professional staff at Europe Economics are all highly trained economists and a number also have extensive experience of working in both the private and public sectors. We are well qualified to provide advice based on sound economic principles tempered by pragmatic understanding of real-life situations.
In addition to our core skills in economic analysis, we also provide financial and cost benefit modelling and we are expert in the application of advanced econometrics techniques. These techniques, carefully applied, can shed new light on the factors driving economic developments.
Reliable information is essential for good economic analysis and we are expert in data collection, including the use of survey methods where no published information is available. We present the results of our analysis in clear and non-technical reports supported, if required, by workshops and presentations.
