CASE STUDIES

ICE CREAM FARM DAY VISITOR ATTRACTION
Rural Solutions’ advisory, planning and design work maximised the potential of an impressive, large-scale rural diversification project; The Ice Cream Farm, Cheshire, located on the Bolesworth Estate. Rural Solutions managed a planning application for an ambitious redevelopment and improvement scheme at a successful farm-based day visitor attraction in Cheshire.

We were tasked with producing a design which reflected the ambitions of the client and their business. A meticulous design process followed where various options were exhausted before a final design was chosen and developed.

Following the granting of planning permission, the Rural Solutions design and project management teams took the design to the next stage with a full building control application and tender package being produced to take the proposal forward into the construction phase.

The resulting scheme includes the world’s largest purpose-built ice cream parlour helping the Cheshire-based Ice Cream Farm become the most visited farm attraction in the UK, seeing over 800,000 visitors a year.

ESTATE VILLAGE STRATEGIC EXPANSION
Working closely with an estate owner in North Yorkshire, not far from the Nidderdale Area of Natural Beauty (AONB), Rural Solutions has been actively involved in the sustainable expansion of an estate village.

Rural Solutions has worked with the estate on a dual approach; promotion of the village expansion through the Local Plan process, supporting the vision through the various stages of consultation including appearing at Examination in Public; and through the development of a multifaceted outline planning application.

Working in conjunction with our specialist planning team, our architectural design and landscape architecture teams have been involved in developing design proposals for the scheme, which includes a garden village encompassing the range of new developments.

Initial work with the estate included strategic development of site options and extensive community consultation. It has also involved multi-agency discussions and negotiations on infrastructure, architecture and design.

The outline application will include between 135 and 199 new dwellings, a new two-form entry primary school with nursery provision, incubator business / local office space and equestrian facilities, new community facilities and services including a convenience store, pub and café.

This scheme is a prime example of our multi-disciplinary approach to managing large-scale projects and fully translating our client’s vision.
