34 Communities in Wales celebrating grants of more than £275,000

The Big Lottery Fund awarded £277,412 of grants to 34 communities in Wales last month. The National Lottery Awards for All grants are available thanks to players of the National Lottery.

You can see the full range of projects awarded here which, as usual, represents a broad range of interests.

In honour of International Women’s Day, we are singling out the three projects with a particular focus on supporting women:

Cardiff based, Women Seeking Sanctuary Advocacy Group Wales will put the £9,140 grant towards support refugee women and their families by developing a network of volunteers and mentors who have overcome similar challenges to help them build confidence and develop new skills.

BME Water Friends Swimming Club also based in Cardiff will use the £10, 000 grant to provide women from black and ethnic minority groups with swimming lessons and health awareness sessions.

In Swansea, Women’s Learning and Development Cymru were awarded £9,804 to provide training, some courses leading to accreditations, to help women from black and ethnic minorities, gypsy travellers and migrants to get into a better position to find work.

Gareth Williams, funding manger told us:

“With International Women’s Day putting a global spotlight on women’s rights we wanted to focus on projects that tackle issues specifically affecting women, of course many of the other grants this month will also benefit women and girls as part of the wider community.”
