A creative future in a changing world
Sir Nicholas Serota gave his first speech as Chair of Arts Council England at No Boundaries 2017.
Our new Chair gave his first speech since joining the Arts Council at Hull Truck theatre recently.
In his speech, Sir Nicholas announced a major new Commission with Durham University and how it links with a pilot scheme exploring the potential of the 25-year Creative Talent Plan and the Cultural Education Challenge.

The Durham Commission on Creativity and Education
The joint commission between Durham University and Arts Council England will investigate what happens when children experience arts and culture, and how this helps them develop and thrive.
The commission, launching in September 2017, will seek evidence from a range of stakeholders and produce a report in spring 2019 making recommendations about how we might develop a high quality cultural education for all children and young people, wherever they live.
25-Year Creative Talent Plan and Cultural Education Challenge
Alongside the Commission, we’ll be working with De Montfort University to develop a pilot scheme exploring the potential of the 25-Year Creative Talent Plan.
We’ll also be championing the Cultural Education Challenge by continuing to invest in a range of music and cultural education programmes including Music Education Hubs and In Harmony.
