APCC response to the Government’s future vision for probation

APCC Criminal Justice Lead, David Lloyd PCC, responded to the publication of today’s consultation ‘Strengthening probation, building confidence’

“We welcome this consultation as the current arrangements are clearly not working as they were intended. It provides an opportunity to consider how Police and Crime Commissioners can play a far greater role in how rehabilitation services are delivered locally, including in the design, commissioning and co-commissioning of services and we look forward to working with Government to take this forward.

“As the consultation acknowledges, effective offender management relies on good partnership working at the local level. PCCs with their role as senior elected criminal justice service leaders and their responsibility for providing effective and efficient local criminal justice services, are ideally placed to help create a more integrated, collaborative and accountable system.”
