Bus changes are coming to central London soon

Alterations to West End bus routes will begin this summer, improving reliability, cutting congestion and helping to tackle air pollution in the Capital.

Forty per cent fewer buses will run on Oxford Street, one of Europe's busiest shopping districts.

The changes mean some bus routes will end at Park Lane, Trafalgar Square and Tottenham Court Road, while other routes will be extended.

The changes will affect routes 3, 6, 8, 15, 22, 23, 25, 46, 73, 137, 172, 242, 332, 390, 425, 452, C2, N2, N3, N8, N15, N22 and N73.

The move follows a public consultation and reflects customers' changing travel patterns. A faster, more reliable Tube has taken pressure off buses and the Night Tube has provided new links to and from the West End.

The opening of the Elizabeth line late next year - with stations at Bond Street and Tottenham Court Road - will also affect the way people travel around the area.

TfL's Director of Surface Transport, Leon Daniels, said: 'As our city changes around us, we need to ensure the bus network changes too. Making sure we have the right level of buses in central London is key to keeping our city moving.'
