CBI: Support for innovation is the cornerstone of making Scotland a better place to do business

The CBI has responded to the First Minister's speech on the economy.

Support for innovation is the cornerstone of making Scotland a better place to do business

Hugh Aitken CBE, CBI Scotland Director said:

“We welcome the Scottish Government’s pledge of additional funding to support business investment in new R&D projects. This is very much in line with measures we called for in June via our report Pursuing Prosperity. Support for innovation is the cornerstone of making Scotland a more entrepreneurial, competitive and prosperous place to do business.

“We’re also pleased to see the First Minister put in place concrete steps to boost growth, create jobs and realise Scotland’s economic potential and welcome the emphasis on working in partnership with business to achieve these objectives. CBI Scotland looks forward to working with the Scottish Government to drive this agenda forward.

“Following the publication of the Barclay Review, business will be keen to see a swift and constructive response to the recommendations and will watch on with interest as next week’s Programme for Government is announced.”
