CBI responds to additional business rates relief

CBI yesterday responded to additional business rates relief.

Rain Newton-Smith, CBI Chief Economist, yesterday said:

“Relief on business rates through the crisis has offered a real fillip to retailers, hospitality and leisure, struggling day-in, day-out.

“This latest relief will now help some of the forgotten supply chain businesses hit indirectly by restrictions and offers more support to the devolved nations, so credit to the Government for listening to the concerns of business.

“It’s a tricky balance to strike, but other firms whose revenues have been hard hit by the crisis will certainly be highly frustrated that their appeals for discounts will be null and void now.

“Businesses will be hoping that the gradual reopening of the economy in the coming weeks and months can help bring some solace, with many keen to get back on the front foot.”
