Committee welcomes new IPSA rules on employing connected parties

The Committee welcomes the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority's decision to stop funding for new 'connected parties'.

One of the key changes in IPSA’s new Scheme of MPs’ Business Costs and Expenses is that there will be no IPSA funding for new connected parties following the next General Election. All current connected parties will have their employment protected.

The Committee welcomes this decision:

“The Committee believes IPSA’s decision to end payment to new ‘connected parties’ is a welcome step, in line with the Committee’s recommendation following the expenses scandal. Although many provide an excellent service, it was considered that employment of family members was out of step with modern employment practice and not consistent with proper use of public funds.”
