Developing a large-scale water simulator for the UK: NERC and STFC seek water sector views

NERC and the Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) are jointly investigating the viability of developing a large scale water simulator in the UK – a unique modelling and simulation capability to integrate all aspects of sustainable water management and interactions with other infrastructure and service providers.

In order to explore potential approaches to building a picture of the whole water system through a simulator, NERC and STFC have commissioned an Arup and WRc team to conduct a scoping study to identify the following:

  • the current UK capability in the water simulator space and any unique selling points specific to the UK
  • key competition from other water industries globally
  • the capability and lessons learned from other industries that can be applied to the water sector
  • the wider appetite within the sector to support the development of a large-scale water simulator.

We are seeking the views of the water sector on the above questions via an online survey. Please complete the survey by 15 June 2018.

Your input will inform the development of any future NERC and STFC water innovation activities in this area and particularly the digital water sector. We appreciate you taking the time to complete this.
