The NDA’s cyber security systems have been endorsed by a new Government scheme designed to reduce the risk of digital disruption.

Millions of automated and focused attacks are targeted constantly at the world’s computer systems. The Cyber Essentials (CE) scheme is designed to reduce the vulnerability of businesses.

According to a recent Cabinet Office report, The Cost of Cyber Crime, around £27 billion a year is lost to the UK economy through cyber crime. Much of this arises from the theft of Intellectual Property.

Cyber Essential Plus, the highest level of certification has now been awarded to the NDA following a comprehensive assessment by independent specialists, confirming that its systems are well protected.

From last October, certification with the CE scheme became mandatory for suppliers to government working on specified contracts involving sensitive and personal information. CE was drawn up in consultation with business organisations, including small businesses. It advises on controls that provide cost-effective security. Different options are available for costs and level of assurance.

The NDA’s Information Security Assurance Manager, Rakesh Burgul, said:

“Protection of all our electronic systems is very much a priority and we are delighted to secure this endorsement.

“This scheme offers guidance to enable all kinds of organisations, from large businesses down to micro-companies and the self-employed to better protect themselves.”

Cyber Essentials Scheme Overview

The NDA, meanwhile, is sponsoring a cyber security conference in Bolton, Lancashire, later this month. Aimed at all levels of industry, from large corporations to micro-businessses, the event, from 23-24 March, takes place over two days at the Macron Stadium, with a nuclear focus on the first day. Attendance for delegates is free of charge.
