Former Metropolitan Police Service detention officer to appear in court charged with two counts of sexual assault

A former civilian member of staff at the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) is due to go on trial next week charged with two counts of sexual assault, following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Karamat Muhammad, 25 from Isleworth, was a dedicated detention officer within the MPS and was investigated following an alleged incident that took place at Hounslow police station on 17 September 2017 during which a 35-year-old woman alleged she was sexually assaulted.

The woman had been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, theft of a vehicle and obstructing an officer.

We completed our investigation in December 2017 and referred our findings and a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for their consideration. Mr Muhammad was charged with two counts of sexual assault and his trial will begin at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday, 28 January.
