A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officer will face a gross misconduct hearing on 9 January, following an independent investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The IPCC investigation looked at the actions of GMP prior to the death of Mr Jim Wright, from Bolton, and specifically the actions of the police constable (PC) who attended Mr Wright’s home prior to his death.

PC David Perry visited the home of Mr Wright and his wife on the evening of 18 October 2016 in response to reports of domestic violence against Mr Wright. The following day Mr Wright was admitted to hospital and sadly he died on 24 October.

The IPCC report was finalised in June 2017 and shared with GMP. Within the report, the IPCC recommended to the force that PC Perry had a case to answer for breaching the standards of behaviour expected of a police officer, specifically in relation to honesty and integrity and neglect of duties.

At an inquest into Mr Wright’s death, held in Bolton on 5 October 2017, the coroner recorded an open verdict.

The gross misconduct hearing will begin on 9 January 2018 at GMP headquarters in Manchester. Following the conclusion of the proceedings we will consider publishing our findings.
