The Get Creative Festival, the UK-wide celebration of have-a-go creativity, is back this weekend (running from 11 to 19 May 2019) aiming to give everyone in the UK the chance to Get Creative.

The annual festival (now in its fourth year) shines a light on all the innovative and inspiring cultural activity taking place across the UK. Last year’s festival saw more than 1,400 events take place, and this year the hope is to encourage even more people to try their hand at something new and creative!

In 2019, BBC Radio 3’s New Generation Thinker and UCL Senior Research Fellow Dr Daisy Fancourt  will reveal why creativity is good for wellbeing, using results from the biggest study of its kind. The Get Creative ‘Feel Good Test’ – developed in partnership with UCL and The Open University –  will offer participants a ‘Feel Good Formula’: offering advice on the creative activities that suit them and calculating what might stop engagement in a creative pursuit. This unique test will launch in early May and can be found at bbc.co.uk/getcreative.

For the first time, Get Creative will also be partnering with four festivals that celebrate creativity in later life – Age of Creativity in England, as well as Bealtainev (Ireland), Gwanwyn (Wales) and Luminate (Scotland). 

What’s happening in England?  

• Get the feel-good feeling by joining Up for Arts, BeatLife and Samba Livre as their dancing procession struts their stuff along the streets of Liverpool ONE
• Take part in a DJ workshop in Doncaster – led by Creative Directions – and aimed at adults who struggle with stress and feelings of loneliness
• Shake your tailfeathers at two dance classes at Sadler’s Wells in London – a fun, open session for over 60s and a workshop encouraging children aged 2-4 and their carers to dance together
• GO SKETCH: a hands-on and playful art workshop Bristol Royal Hospital for Children
• Collaborate on a big build in a series of drop-in clay workshops in Leeds around the theme SCALE, finding out what happens when things are big, bigger, or massive
