Government's announcement of the winter "Protect Programme"

Last night, Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick, announced that a further £15 million will be allocated for rough sleepers this year.

Commenting on the government's announcement of the winter "Protect Programme", Rick Henderson said:

"We are glad that government has listened to the concerns of homelessness charities and responded with this additional funding. As we move into the winter period with a second wave of Covid-19, this new programme is of course extremely positive for our sector and the people they support. This funding goes some way towards providing the protection needed for those that have become newly homeless or who are at risk of returning to the streets as they move on from emergency accommodation.

"The support that the programme will bring will help to arrest the spread of COVID-19, preserve life, and ensure that people that need it receive support to meet their other health and wellbeing needs as the pandemic continues.

"However, after this period of lockdown it will be crucial for a transition plan, including long term funding, to be in place, as well as a commitment to addressing the root causes of rough sleeping, to keep Everyone In For Good."
