Holiday fun at the museum

Little ones can join storytime sessions and make-and-take activities where they can create their own story book inspired by an artwork from the exhibition.

Families with special educational needs (SEN) are invited to an Early Explorer Morning where children will be able to discover the joys of the museum before it opens to the general public.

Take a look at some of the events running from this Saturday until Sunday 29 October and see what appeals to you.

Storytime sessions for all ages
Sessions are 20 minutes, between 11am and 2pm

Join the museum's guest storyteller on a magical adventure. A little monster finds a mysterious poster that comes to life and transports her into the world of the picture. Discover the weird and wonderful characters she meets and then help the group lead their new friend back into the real world.

Make & Take, ages three to 12
Sessions are an hour, between 11.30am and 2.30pm

Youngsters can create their own story book inspired by a poster from the museum's Poster Girls exhibition. They will be invited to find shapes, people and places tucked away in the picture. Using stencils, collage and drawing techniques they will create a story that takes their characters through an imaginary world, before folding it into a small book.

SEN Early Explorer Morning, Saturday 28 October
9am to 10am. Book ahead

Enjoy the museum at a less busy time, free from the general public, and take part in one of the interactive workshops and demonstrations. Many of the gallery sounds are switched off, making the museum peaceful and quieter. Children can explore the All Aboard family galleries, join in with craft activities or get hands-on with all types of transport history.

Other activities
For young children, there's also the museum's All Aboard play zone where they can dress up and play conductor on a real bus, repair a mini Tube train with toy spanners, and work in the Lost Property office.

Admission to the museum is free for children under 17 (under-12s must be accompanied by an adult). Tickets for adults are £17.50 on the door (£15 for concessions) and allow unlimited visits to the galleries and temporary exhibition for a year. A saving of £1.50 per ticket can be made by booking online at ltmuseum.co.uk. To book a place on the SEN Early explorer Morning Session, call 020 7565 7298.
