Housing Minister highlights need for anti-social behaviour cases to be heard when hearings resume
Housing Minister Christopher Pincher MP has highlighted the importance that possession cases involving anti-social behaviour are heard when current ban on evictions is lifted.
Mr Pincher MP was responding to a written question from Helen Hayes MP (Labour, Dulwich and West Norwood) and said the pause on possession cases will end on 23rd August.
He added that “this is an important step” and will ensure “landlords and tenants have appropriate access to justice in cases that are not related to COVID-19, such as cases of anti-social behaviour and longstanding cases that pre-date lockdown measures being put in place”.
The NRLA has been calling for the courts to deal urgently and swiftly with possessions cases involving anti-social behaviour and domestic abuse when they can begin to hear cases again, and continues to campaign for further measures to support landlords and tenants.
The association recently highlighted the importance of this when giving evidence to the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee on the impact of Covid-19 on the private rented sector and also to Wales’ Equality Local Government and Communities Committee inquiry on the impact of Covid-19 on homelessness.
