IPCC launch independent investigation after cyclist is injured during detention by Metropolitan Police Officers

The IPCC is appealing for witnesses after a 15-year-old was injured while being detained by Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officers.

Shortly after 9pm on Tuesday 21 November 2017 officers attempted to detain a 15-year-old riding a bicycle along Southwark Park Road, Bermondsey, south east London following reports of a robbery.

The cyclist came off his bicycle and sustained facial injuries. An ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

MPS made a mandatory referral to the IPCC which is now investigating the incident. IPCC investigators were deployed to the scene and attended post incident procedures.

Anyone who may have witnessed the police interaction with the teenager is asked to contact IPCC investigators on 0800 029 4687 or southwarkparkroad@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk
