Investigation into police contact in Staffordshire stabbing case

We have begun an investigation into Staffordshire Police’s response to a number of incidents before a 16-year-old girl was treated in hospital for stab wounds.

Our independent investigation follows a mandatory referral from the force after the girl was admitted at Queen’s Hospital, Burton-on-Trent on the morning of 23 January (2018).

IOPC Regional Director Derrick Campbell said “As is widely known, the force is separately conducting a criminal investigation and a man has been arrested and charged in connection with that. Therefore it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment at this time.”
