Investing in creative talent

Talent needs time and space to thrive – and that is exactly what we’ve been able to provide thanks to our National Lottery funded Developing your Creative Practice fund.

On Thursday 12 July we announced that 103 artists across England were awarded funding in Round 1 of Developing your Creative Practice, giving them that invaluable opportunity to develop their creative work.

Among the 19 successful artists across the East and South East is JP Omari, who will use support from Developing your Creative Practice to explore alternative routes for breakdancing as a creative and theatrical experience.

Opportunity to thrive

At the heart of our investment is a drive to create the opportunity for talent to flourish with an understanding that innovation and creativity can bring risk. What if an idea doesn’t work out? What does that mean for the creative practitioner – professionally and financially?

Through Developing your Creative Practice, we’re able to give artists the confidence and platform to take those risks – not just to develop individually as artists, but to have the time to research and create work that will inspire, entertain and challenge us – as art can and should.

Hedley Swain, Area Director, South East, Arts Council England, said: “Artists and their incredible creativity are the lifeblood of our successful arts and culture sector. It is vitally important that creative practitioners are given the time and space they need to produce work that inspires, challenges and entertains us. And so, we’re really excited to support this first group through Developing your Creative Practice, investing in a wide range of ideas, art forms and development needs. I look forward to seeing what these artists can achieve thanks to National Lottery funding.”
