Kent officer disciplined over conduct during visit to a property in Chatham

A Kent police officer has been issued a written warning over his conduct during a visit to a property in Chatham.

PC Sacha Azizi, alongside PC Daniel Baker and PC Jai Shoker, appeared at a misconduct hearing that began on Monday 18 March following an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation.

Our investigation, launched in October 2017 following a referral from Kent Police, and completed in June 2018, concluded all three officers had a case to answer for gross misconduct over their actions on the day. Kent Police agreed and scheduled the hearing.

On Monday, following a ruling from the panel regarding evidence collected prior to the IOPC’s involvement, the case against PC Shoker was dismissed.

Our investigation found evidence that PC Azizi and PC Baker entered a property uninvited in Chatham on 31 May 2017, to locate and arrest a woman in relation to an arson and may not have had a legal power to do so.

During this incident our investigation found evidence to suggest that the PC Azizi used inappropriate language and was discourteous to the occupants of the property. We also found evidence to suggest PC Baker failed to challenge the behaviour of PC Azizi.

On Wednesday 20 March the panel ruled that PC Azizi had breached professional standards of behaviour, but that the breach constituted misconduct rather than gross misconduct. He was issued a written warning.

The panel ruled that PC Baker had not breached standards of professional behaviour.
