LGA responds to the Public Accounts Committee Report on the Culture Recovery Fund

Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, Chair of the LGA’s Culture, Tourism and Sport Board, responds to the Public Accounts Committee report on the Culture Recovery Fund.

“The Culture Recovery Fund has provided a much needed lifeline for arts, heritage and culture organisations during this uncertain and challenging period. The upcoming third phase of funding is a positive addition to the support received so far.

“Further long-term investment in music, events and theatres is vital to protect these sectors against further losses and enable them to remain operational while social distancing and safety measures remain in place as we move towards phase 4 of the roadmap.

Local government has been redeploying its investments to support the sector, along with the 3000 libraries, 350 museums, and 116 theatres it directly delivers. However, councils need sustainable long-term funding to continue this vital work.”
