Man fatally shot by police in north London named

The man who was fatally shot by police in Islington, north London in the early hours of Friday 5 September 2014 can now be named as 40-year-old Dean Joseph of Northumberland Park, Haringey, north London.

Members of Mr Joseph’s family formally identified him on Friday 12 September at Poplar mortuary. IPCC family liaison managers assisted with the process.

The IPCC is investigating the circumstances surrounding Mr Joseph’s death and investigators have spoken to over 30 witnesses who saw or heard events connected to the fatal shooting in Shepperton Road, Islington.

An inquest into Mr Joseph’s death is yet to open.

The IPCC investigation is ongoing
