NHS Confederation - Government must go further to overcome barriers to self-isolation

Danny Mortimer, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, responded to the Government’s announcement of new measures to support self-isolation

“A robust test, trace and isolate system is vital in helping to curb the spread of COVID-19, especially as new variants increase and spread, so these latest proposals are welcome. The offer of alternative accommodation for those in overcrowded housing is particularly good news, and we look forward to seeing more detail on how people can access this support.

“However, health leaders know there is still more to do to ensure the test and trace system is working as effectively as possible. There is still the very real risk that some people simply will not be able to afford to self-isolate, which in turn, could discourage them from getting tested at all. The Government must go further to make good on its commitment to overcome these barriers.”
