NHS Confederation - Government right to recognise the inspirational work in primary care and across the system

Ruth Rankine, PCN Network director at the NHS Confederation, which represents organisation across the healthcare sector, responded to the latest Downing Street press conference

“As the nation sets its sights on emerging from lockdown, it is incredibly important that this is done safely and in a way that continues to protect the NHS.

“It was pleasing to hear NHS England and NHS Improvement's medical director of primary care Dr Nikki Kanani recognising the hard work and dedication from across the system, including the wide range of primary care services. We have seen a rapid transformation across these services, with staff adapting to new ways of working and delivering care to patients that we must build on as the NHS resets after COVID-19. However, we need to see this welcome recognition backed up by greater support from Government for primary care services, including ensuring they have adequate supply to PPE and easy access to testing.

“As Dr Kanani said the NHS remains open for anyone who needs it, including over the Bank Holiday weekend. This is the NHS, not the COVID Health Service, and it is important that if you are unwell you seek treatment.”
