NHS Confederation - Mental Health Network response to CQC report on health services applying Mental Health Act

Sean Duggan, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Network, which is part of the NHS Confederation, responded to the Care Quality Commission annual report on how health services in England are applying the Mental Health Act

“We value the findings in the CQC’s report, which support our long-held belief that the Mental Health Act needs refreshing.

“We welcomed the Government’s announcement last year that it was commissioning an independent review of the Act. The on-going review represents the ideal opportunity to address some of the areas highlighted here.

“We look forward to the results of the review. Evidence-based improvements to the legislation and practice around the Act will ultimately improve the quality of care provided to those reaching mental health crisis.

“We continue to play an active role in informing Professor Sir Simon Wessely’s work, contributing the views of our members to help shape its recommendations.”
