NICE Medtech Early Technical Assessment tool to form part of government grant application process for healthcare product developer

The Medtech Early Technical Assessment (META) tool has been selected , as an option, to form part of the application process for a £1million grant for developers of innovative medicines, diagnostics and regulated digital technology in a real world clinical setting,

This follows the recent announcement from the Office for Life Sciences in partnership with Innovate UK that it will invest up to £1million to help small and medium sized companies generate an evidence base for their products so they can be evaluated for use within the NHS. The support will enable companies to collect and analyse clinical performance and cost effectiveness data within an NHS setting.

As part of the application process companies will need to provide details of the gap analysis of the clinical performance and cost effectiveness of their products and the NICE META tool is recommended, as an option, to help with this part of the application.

The tool is an online service that helps medical technology developers optimise their development plans for their product. It provides a structured framework to help identify potential gaps in product development plans and the potential next steps to bring a product to market.

It was developed by NICE in collaboration with Greater Manchester Academic Health Science Network, with their delivery partner TRUSTECH, and is also available through other relevant organisations under licence.

The closing date for applications for the grant is Wednesday, 21 March. For more information about the grant, including how to apply, please visit the website
