This month National Lottery Awards for All grants totalling £282,201 went to 51 communities across Wales. Many of the Big Lottery Fund grants are for projects making a difference to the lives of young children and families and the range of applications shows a real diversity of interest. After school and holiday clubs are a part of the story but there is a lot more going on from Pride Youth Games or access to an anti-bullying programme to a production of Jungle Book. Here are some of the projects which have been funded to benefit young people this month, all made possible thanks to players of the National Lottery (You can find the full list here): 

Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBTQ+) Sport Cymru will host a Pride Youth Games residential, bringing younger LGBTQ+ people from across the whole of Wales together, improving their mental health, and encouraging them to share experiences. 

Resolve It! C.I.C. in Cardiff will run an 8 week ‘Anti-Bullying, Awareness and Confidence’ programme for 80 young people from local communities throughout Cardiff. 

The British Stammering Association will enable Welsh people on low incomes to participate in a conference in Cardiff, designed to help people with stammers gain confidence and fulfil their potential. 

UpRising Leadership in Cardiff will deliver a leadership programme for 10 to 25 year olds with weekly skills and knowledge sessions. Each group will develop and deliver a Social Action Campaign on subjects that matter to them. 

Createasmile in Rhyl will give young people with autism, adhd, global development delay and disabilities the opportunity to gain hands on skills, Agored Cymru qualifications and social communication skills in a community hub. 

Pen-Y-Dre High School in Merthyr Tydfil will work with their community to put on a production of the Jungle Book 

Stepaside C P School in Pembrokeshire will give whole families the opportunity to take part in courses including photography, film-making , cooking and pizza making, art, storytelling, science and a family fayre. 

Darren Las Environmental Group Limited in Rhondda Cynon Taf will refurbish the local paddling pool and re-open it as an iconic family facility for the local community. 

Swansea University Students' Union will train six University staff members to deliver suicide prevention workshops supporting vulnerable members of their institution.

We want to support projects that address the issues that are important to young people. The range of projects we have seen this month shows just how broad their interests are.”
