No progress on environment 1 year on from vote to leave the EU - WWF comment

Lang Banks, Executive Director at WWF, commented on the first anniversary of the vote to leave the EU

“A year is a long time in politics, but in the realm of environment little has changed and even less has improved. Since the vote to leave the EU no effective action has been taken to safeguard nature. And last week’s Queen’s Speech was yet another missed opportunity for the UK Government to set out clearly how it will keep its promise to leave the environment in a better state.

“We are still losing our species at an alarming rate, our rivers are still polluted, and there is no sign of a plan to reduce our emissions or the much needed 25 Year Plan for nature. We need a clear direction from the UK Government to ensure that we can protect and restore our nature and wildlife, and take up a global role in issues such as combatting the illegal wildlife trade.”
