The Government’s paper on Northern Ireland

The Government recently published a paper on Northern Ireland setting out a range of commitments on the backstop. Open Europe's David Shiels examines the proposals as well as the response from the EU.

Overall, the Northern Ireland paper contains a number of important ideas which form the basis of a way ahead, but the Government might have been more likely to retain the support of the DUP had they fleshed them out at a much earlier stage.
