Unique Cyber Security Centre shortlisted for national award

The National Management Centre (NMC), which is the only nationally co-ordinated capability to protect UK Policing against cyber-attacks, has been shortlisted for a national Cloud Excellence Award.

The Computing Cloud Excellence Awards 2021 recognise the very best of the UK’s cloud industry. The NMC has been chosen as a Finalist in the Cloud Security Product of the Year category for small and medium sized enterprises. This category recognises innovative products or organisations that are designed to protect customers data and information and help to set minds at ease.

The NMC was established in July 2019 and forms part of the Police Digital Service (PDS), which is responsible for delivering the National Policing Digital Strategy and harness the power of digital, data and technology to enable UK policing to better protect the communities it serves.

We use cloud-based technology to monitor and act on cyber threats in real-time. We provide support and resolution for incidents in a timely and efficient way, which helps to reduce risk and mitigate threat. Our team of 45 cyber security experts work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to keep police networks secure and sensitive information and public data safe.

As a new organisation, the NMC is the first to offer a nationally coordinated, locally delivered service to protect police forces against cyber threats; this is something which has never before been available to UK Policing.

The presence of the NMC means that officers and staff across the country can focus their efforts on tackling crime and protecting people, safe in the knowledge that their networks, information, and infrastructure are secure. Additionally, the NMC provides instant and easily accessible information to allow forces to provide an enhanced service and handle threats in real-time. This leads to a better experience for officers and for the communities which they serve.

Stephen Reid, NMC Director, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for this award; as a relatively new organisation it is great that we have achieved so much in such a short space of time and that our achievements are being recognized. Just to be shortlisted is a real honour and something we are very proud of, there are some fantastic finalists within the category so we wish all of those shortlisted the best of luck and will keep our fingers crossed on the night!”

This year’s winners will be announced at a live awards ceremony on Thursday 23 September in London.

The National Management Centre has previously won two other national awards; the 2020 Security Excellence Award- Risk Management and Security Project of the Year at Computing’s Digital Technology Leaders’ Awards 2020.
