Vacancies at the National Infrastructure Commission

The National Infrastructure Commission is looking for:

Senior Economic Adviser
Deadline: Wednesday 9 January

We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual to join us as a Senior Economic Adviser.  The successful candidate will be responsible for leading analytical projects and developing the Commission’s approach to key economic issues. Examples of the type of projects the Senior Economic Adviser may be expected to lead include looking at measures for assessing the impact of infrastructure on quality of life; how decisions are made under uncertainty; an evaluation of a transformational infrastructure project; how to drive productivity and cost savings in infrastructure; quantifying opportunities from new technologies; and different financing and funding models in infrastructure.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates with experience dealing with complex analytical issues and deriving sound, evidence-based policy advice, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. In addition, the successful candidate will be organised in order to manage a busy workload to meet deadlines and key priorities.

Chief Operating Officer
Deadline: Thursday 10 January

We’re looking for a Chief Operating Officer to lead the organisational development and management of the Commission.  This is a central role in the business development and management of the organisation.  We envisage the role being of interest to experienced corporate managers, or those seeking to move into this area.  Responsibilities are wide-ranging but will include:

  • Providing leadership on organisational design and culture within the context of developing the National Infrastructure Commission;
  • Ensuring appropriate governance structures are in place within the organisation;
  • Providing solid leadership to the corporate team, to deliver effective support to the Commission to ensure business objectives are achieved – including the line management of two staff and the counter-signing responsibility of four staff;
  • Overseeing the financial management of the Commission and preparing its Annual Report;
  • Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and
  • Promoting a culture of necessary support, high performance and continuous improvement across the organisation

Our ideal candidate will be experienced in governance, risk management and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.  Financial experience and budgetary skills are a must, and we’d prefer the successful candidate to have knowledge of HR processes (or a willingness to develop this)

Assistant Director
Deadline: Sunday 13 January

Assistant Directors sit at the heart of the Commission.  They are responsible for leading projects and staff to deliver against the Commission’s broad and challenging remit.  The successful candidate will work closely with Commissioners and senior management to scope and deliver the essential components of the organisation’s work plan.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading multiple policy projects across the Commission’s remit, identifying recommendations and preparing reports which are robust and compelling enough to have a direct impact on Government policy;
  • Line managing a multi-disciplinary team of around five people, which may include policy-makers, specialists and secondees;
  • Playing an active role in the leadership team at the Commission, providing input and challenge across all of the Commission’s work programme and contributing to making the organisation a great place to work; and
  • Representing the Commission externally with senior stakeholders, at meetings and events

A background in an area or sector directly related to the Commission’s remit would be useful but is not essential

Senior Policy Adviser
Deadline: 22 January

We’re looking for a new Senior Policy Adviser to work with a variety of teams involving policy specialists, economists, engineers, consultants and industry secondees to run robust and broad-ranging policy development programmes and deliver high quality and evidence-based advice to the Commission.  The role involves preparing reports on complex and high-profile issues and presenting arguments and analysis on government policy.  The successful candidate will work with a variety of key stakeholders across government and present evidence to members of the Commission.

We are looking for candidates with experience developing and implementing policy programmes and the ability to analyse policy issues.  In addition, we are looking for excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritise effectively in order to meet deadlines.
