West Midlands Police constable charged with misconduct in public office

A serving West Midlands Police constable is to appear in court tomorrow (Thursday 4 July) charged with misconduct in public office.

PC James Ankrett also faces a charge of corrupt/improper exercise of police powers and privileges by a constable contrary to section 26 of the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015. It follows an investigation by the IOPC.

It is alleged that he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a vulnerable woman he met during the course of his duties.

We began our inquiries following a referral from West Midlands Police in October 2017 and our investigation report was completed in October last year (2018).

After reviewing the evidence the Crown Prosecution Service authorised the charges against PC Ankrett in May this year and he will make his first appearance at Walsall and Aldridge Magistrates Court.
