Witness appeal following Bristol arrest

We are appealing for witnesses after complaints were made in respect of an arrest by Avon and Somerset police officers in Castle Park, Bristol, on 21 July.

Our investigation, which began in mid-August, follows a voluntary referral from Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

Castle Park was subject to a dispersal zone when Avon and Somerset officers arrested and detained a man. The man alleges excessive force was used during the arrest, including the use of PAVA spray.

IOPC Director Catrin Evans, who has responsibility for Avon and Somerset, said: “There were a number of people in the Castle Park area and the incident was filmed and posted on social media. We would urge anyone who witnessed events to get in touch with our investigators.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident should call 0800 029 4687 or emailcastlepark@policeconduct.gov.uk
