Witness appeal following serious injury collision in Nottingham

We are seeking witnesses to help our investigation into a police pursuit prior to a collision in Nottingham in which a motorcyclist was seriously injured.

The collision happened in Alwyn Road, Broxtowe, at about 11.50pm on Thursday 26 April and involved a motorcycle and a van which was parked and unoccupied. The motorcyclist, a man aged 20, was taken to hospital with serious injuries although these are not believed to be life threatening.

The incident was referred to us by Nottinghamshire Police as the motorcycle had been pursued shortly before the collision after officers responded to reports that it had been stolen. We understand that two marked police cars were involved in the pursuit which began in Bulwell town centre and lasted for several minutes.

We would urge anyone who saw the collision or any part of the incident leading up to it to contact the IOPC on 0800 029 4688 or email: broxtowe@policeconduct.gov.uk

After we were notified by the force we sent investigators to the scene and the police post incident procedure to begin gathering information including accounts from officers and police airwave radio transmissions. We are also reviewing body worn video and in-car CCTV footage.

IOPC Regional Director Derrick Campbell said: “Due to the serious nature of the injuries suffered by the motorcyclist involved in this incident we have a duty to independently investigate this matter. We will be examining the events before the collision to determine if appropriate policies and procedures were followed.”
