YPO and Corona Energy launch Social Value Fund
YPO continues to support local communities through its annual £10,000 Social Value Fund, delivered as part of its Social Value and Sustainability Strategy and in partnership with Corona Energy.
The fund supports UK registered charities that are delivering meaningful community impact. Customers using YPO’s 1187 Supply of Gas framework were invited to apply for funding on behalf of a nominated charity that met the scheme’s selection criteria.
In 2025, £1,900 of the fund was claimed and distributed to a range of charities across the UK, including:
- Every Child, Every Day Academy
- Willowbrook Hospice
- FACES Bedford
- Jen's Special Place
- South Lakes Housing – Manna House
- The Fire Fighters Charity
- Wakefield and District Down's Syndrome Support Group & Wakefield District Sight Aid
- The Mayors of Wigan's Charity Appeal
The remaining £8,100 was awarded to FareShare Yorkshire, the largest and longest-serving food redistribution charity in Yorkshire. FareShare sources and reallocates good surplus food to vital frontline organisations including over 400 charities, schools and community groups.
FareShare was selected as the nominated charity for its strong commitment to tackling food poverty driven by the ongoing cost of living crisis.
With YPO’s donation, FareShare will be able to sort and pack more surplus food than ever before, which will provide 6 million meals in 2026. This will be achieved by saving over 2,500 tonnes of food that would otherwise go to waste.
As part of YPO’s commitment to delivering meaningful social value, four YPO colleagues joined Mat Dodd from Corona Energy at FareShare Yorkshire’s Leeds depot for a day of volunteering.
Following the donation made through YPO’s Gas Framework Social Value Fund, the team saw first hand the impact of the support provided, working alongside FareShare volunteers to pick, pack and sort surplus food for distribution to local charities. The visit highlighted the significance of the donation and provided a great insight into the vital work FareShare Yorkshire does every day.
Jonathan Williams, Chief Executive Officer at FareShare Yorkshire, said:
“Our team is sincerely grateful for the generous support of YPO as we strive to feed people in need and prevent food waste. 700,000 people across Yorkshire are expected to face food insecurity at least once this year, while only 7% of surplus food in the supply chain currently goes to frontline charities such as hospices, refuges, food banks, shelters and soup kitchens. With the support of YPO, our volunteers can rescue more good food that becomes surplus to commercial requirements. This is vital as we strive to contribute enough food to 400 charities and community groups for a record 6 million meals in 2026."
Through initiatives like the Social Value Fund, YPO continues to work with its customers and partners to support communities, strengthen local services and drive positive social and environmental change.
Rowena Reid, Strategic Procurement Manager at YPO, said:
"At YPO, we’re committed to creating meaningful impact in the communities we serve, and the Corona Energy Social Value Fund is one of the ways we bring that commitment to life. We’re proud to support charities that are working tirelessly to tackle pressing local challenges, and this year’s partnership with FareShare Yorkshire demonstrates the powerful difference we can make together. We’re grateful to our customers and partners, like Corona Energy, whose collaboration enables us to drive positive social and environmental change year after year."
