techUK President wins Technology Asian Women of Achievement Award

techUK’s President, Jacqueline de Rojas CBE, wins the award for Technology and Digital at the 2019 Asian Women of Achievement Awards.

The Asian Women of Achievement Awards (AWA) celebrates multicultural Britain and the contribution of Asian women to British society. Jacqueline de Rojas CBE, techUK’s President, was named the winner of the technology and digital award.

Jacqueline yesterday reminded the audience that "women hold up half the sky" whilst being recognised for her achievements.

“Diversity really has found its voice and it’s never been more important than in technology where an algorithm today can decide whether you get a university place, a job interview, or a loan. We have to make sure that if we are not to leave anyone behind, diversity must be in the design teams of all these algorithms. Whenever you are in a place of influence or challenge, ask this simple question: “where are the others?” and when you ask that question you can play your part for diversity moving forward.”

Speakers included the Mayor of London, awards patrons, Cherie Blair CBE QC and HRH Princess Badiya Bint El Hassan, and chair of the judging panel, Sir Nick Young, who has been involved in the judging of the AWA Awards for the past fifteen years. This year marked the 20th year of award shows and success.

Congratulations to all the winners and 66 finalists! Find the full list here.
