During the Summit, techUK’s CEO Julian David will be providing a keynote presentation and additionally techUK will be driving a panel discussion exploring why ethical decision making is good for businesses across all sectors and industries.

Given the projected role the adoption and deployment of AI will play across all UK industries and sectors, all businesses building and deploying AI need to consider and address ethical issues. To many companies the current national and international digital and data ethics debate will seem distant and unconnected to their everyday business practices and operations. However, as the UK Government Industrial Strategy envisages a future where every sector becomes a digitally enabled it is vital all companies are thinking through ethical questions raised by technology. To ensure this happens it is important that the capabilities, capacity and tools UK businesses need to make ethical decision making part of everyday business operations and something that is easy, not hard, are in place.

This panel of industry and business leaders, chaired by techUK, will discuss how far we are away from achieving a future where ethical decision making is embedded within companies everyday business practices; how useful the ethics focused codes of practice, principles and initiatives are to businesses looking to take an ethical approach to decision making  today; whether the capabilities, capacity and tools organisations need to think through the ethics questions raised by AI exist today and if not what more is needed.  It will discuss to what extent the new General Data Protection Regulation provides the framework  businesses need to embed ethical decision making into normal business practices or whether something more is needed to help companies ask, discuss and consider the right ethical questions as well as think and act ethically every day.

Speakers for this panel are being confirmed and will be announced soon.
