techUK welcomes the Local Digital Leadership Report
A joint position paper has urged local Government leaders to champion digital innovation
In a joint position paper, the LGA, SOLACE, SOCITM and the Local CIO Council have challenged local leaders to act as role models in the use of technology in their own local authorities and urges them to find new and innovative ways to ensure the sustainability of local services.
The paper states that councils cannot continue as they are and a ‘wholesale rethink’ about what services can be delivered is needed, as well as adopting a ‘place-based’ approach to delivering outcomes.
It also highlights the importance of sharing information safely and securely between partners, as this is key to unlocking savings through greater efficiency. The paper also points to the growing interest in the role of data analytics, how this can be used to forecast demand and be used to effectively plan and design services.

techUK welcomes the paper’s call for senior leaders to play a more pro-active role in championing digital transformation and putting digital at the forefront of every council agenda, and recognising the need to share best practice and capabilities from within and outside the public sector. To achieve full digital transformation early and meaningful engagement with industry and local government is needed.
Commenting on the announcement, Naureen Khan, Associate Director of Public Sector, techUK said:
“The paper is a step in the right direction and we agree that senior leaders play a pivotal role in championing digital innovation and helping their council unlock the transformative role tech and data can bring in delivering savings and more effective services for the citizen. Crucial to delivering digital innovation will be close engagement with the whole of the tech industry. We look forward to working with the stakeholders involved in the paper to deliver services that put users at the heart of public services transformation.”
Driving collaboration across the sector and industry will be a key focus of our new Local Government Programme. To find out more about the programme please contact Georgina Maratheftis.
