New Chairman and appointees to ECGD’s Advisory Council
Trade Minister Mervyn Davies today announced the appointment of a new Chairman and four new members of the Export Guarantees Advisory Council (EGAC).
EGAC advises Ministers through ECGD - the UK's official export credit agency – principally on policies relating to sustainable development.
EGAC’s new Chairman is Andrew Wiseman, a solicitor specialising in environmental law. Mr Wiseman has been an EGAC member since November 2006. He is currently Head of the Environmental Group and a partner at lawyers Stephenson Harwood and vice-chairman of Environmental Protection UK's Land Quality Committee. He was previously Chairman of the UK Environmental Law Association.
Lord Davies has also appointed Gillian Arthur, Alistair Clark, John Newgas and Anna Soulsby as members of EGAC.
* Ms Arthur is Head of Philanthropy Services at Sanne Group, and has previously worked in roles which have included investigation into the environmental and social impacts of investments and governance standards
* Mr Clark is Corporate Director of the Environment and Sustainability Department at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), where he is involved in the undertaking of environmental impact assessments and policy development
* Mr Newgas, a Consultant for the Sagwen Computer Consultancy, has over twenty years experience in the manufacturing industry
* Ms Soulsby is Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Nottingham University Business School, specialising in countries that have undergone substantial economic and governance reform.

1. All EGAC members are appointed under the rules of the Office of the Commissioner of Public Appointments (OCPA).
2. The appointments of the Chairman and new members are for a minimum of three years.

5. EGAC members are excluded from discussions which might create any conflicts of interest. EGAC does not provide advice on whether or not ECGD should provide support for individual transactions; it has no executive authority.
6. EGAC is a statutory body established by the Export and Investment Guarantees Act 1991 to provide independent advice to the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, in respect of any matter relating to the operation of ECGD.

8. ECGD (http://www.ecgd.gov.uk), the Export Credits Guarantee Department, is the UK's official export credit agency. ECGD works with exporters, project sponsors, banks and buyers to help UK exporters of capital equipment and project-related goods and services, by providing insurance against non-payment risks to UK exporters and guarantees for bank loans to facilitate the arranging of finance to buyers of UK goods. It also provides insurance against political risks to UK investors in overseas markets.
