on a local and national basis in partnership with voluntary,
community, statutory and business organisations. He has developed
the PA from first ideas to an organisation that carries wide
respect in the public and voluntary sectors. He is a trusted
figure and role model within the BME communities, and makes a
valued contribution to a wide range of local and national
priorities. They include supporting families and victims of gun
and other violent crimes and working with ex-offenders and young
people at risk of offending. In his voluntary role as a police
Chaplain, he provides support and comfort to police officers in
difficult personal circumstances. He has facilitated the
development of a Gun Crime Educational DVD and teacher resource
pack. Since 2001 he pioneered, through the Peace Alliance, the
annual Week of Peace in Haringey, engaging several thousand people
of all ages, racial and cultural groups. Subsequently the first
London Week of Peace was celebrated in 2004 and is now a major
annual event. He is committed to ensuring that grass roots
communities and people from all backgrounds and faiths, who often
do not have the opportunity of influencing decision makers about
the issues that affect them on a daily basis, have a genuine say.
Mr. Peter Passam
Mr. David Pinchin
Mr. Charles
Rand
Mr. Edward Seaward
Mr. Edward Wilson
Mr. Michael Wise For services to Julia's House
Children's Hospice and to the community in Dorset
71yrs
old (Christchurch Dorset)
He is the Founder and Chair of
Julia's House, a children's hospice in Dorset set up by
the two daughters of Julia Perk (who died in 1996). She was the
inspiration for the hospice, as it was her wish was to see one in
the county. Inspired by her work he started using his experience
of the voluntary sector, using his contacts and considerable
organising ability to get the project off the ground. Through his
hard work and persuasive powers he raised over £1m and still
continues to raise more funds to keep the hospice going. He
steered the charity from its humble beginnings to being a
nationally renowned organisation with a large number of dedicated
helpers. Julia's House is not just about the hospice itself
but the whole service, which is provided by a team of nurses and
support staff in the community working with children and their
families. He also continues to work for the Adult Education
Service where he spends time teaching individuals with learning
disabilities. He was founder and has been Chair of the
Children's Hospice Service and a representative of the
Association of Children's Hospices. He is well known in the
area and commands respect from all who come into contact with him
for his devotion to those less fortunate.
